Persona Management
The Next Generation Desktop is very diverse, in some ways the term “user desktop” is not fitting anymore. Laptops, Desktops, VDI session, RDS, Tablets, today’s desktop has a user accessing their data in multiple ways, from multiple locations and different devices. In a traditional desktop environment, these variables can make the user experience very inconsistent and downright difficult. User profile settings, security, application settings, and user data combined comprise what is now known as the user Persona. If only there were a way to centrally manage users’ Personas to give a consistent user experience across all of the different user sessions.
The users’ needs to be managed centrally to peel the user Persona from any single piece of hardware and provide user independence.This independence is what some call “user virtualization” or “workspace management”. Location aware printing, anywhere access to data, and consistent end user experience are just a few of the benefits of managing “user workspaces” instead of managing devices. Manage user files and folders centrally so that a user has access to his data consistently, even across platforms such as VDI and Tablet devices.
Security is also a big benefit of workspace management. Devices such as USB drives can be controlled and locked down, blacklisting/whitelisting of applications, and network access controls can now be controlled in a workspace as opposed to a single device. Imagine the benefits of managing the entire user experience from a centralized system instead of local and group policies.
